new mixed media explorations

My studio practice continues to evolve with the exploration of visual and conceptual abstraction and the expressive use of mixed media. Images of new and previous created paintings, drawings, photographs, and "light situation" glass installations are repurposed to become "color light variations-spatial refractions..." - explorations of process, resource material and new tools researched, resulting in a hybrid of elements, multi-generation expressions, digital imagery scrambled, painted into, latex enamel, acrylic, layered in compound color, texture and image integration on canvas – all while considering new applications for the work, whether 2-D or 3-D and site specific installation. Also, here below are a few examples and works in progress...explore!

I am continuing to be especially inspired by our time in the Yucatan so these new paintings in progress I've titled,
"Suenos de Yucatan...", taking in the rich culture and history, extraordinary Mayan ruin sites, time and place in context to vibrant urban center Merida, the diverse and resilient community here, especially during this worldwide pandemic. These works in progress directly align to my ongoing "Common Origins" series.

In addition, several of these works seen below, the Common Origins series, have been inspired by my recent cancer diagnosis, successful surgery, intense treatment, recovery and healing process via the amazing Essentia Health and Mayo Clinic. For paintings below with no title credit under the image, click on the image for larger view and title info. All works are available for purchase unless otherwise note.Your inquiries and comments welcome! Thank you.
